Who we are, what we do

We play hockeyWelcome to Ireland Masters Hockey.  Ireland Masters cater for serious hockey players who want to represent Ireland on the world stage.  We aspire to enter teams in the Over 40s, Over 45s, Over 50s, Over 55s and Over 60s categories.

Currently we annually enter 2 teams to the Home Nations tournament (England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales) for the Over 40s and Over 50s categories.

Ireland Masters has only recently applied for formal recognition from the IHA and we are in the early days of structure and organisation.  We have recently returned from our first experience in the wider international pool at the International Masters Hockey Tournament in Hong Kong returning in November 2009.  We came a very creditable 5th having lost to the (new) World Champions - New Zealand - by a mere 3 goals to nil.

Our enthusiasm has been fired and we now aspire to wider and more open representation opportunities, greater All Ireland involvement, more regular events and an enhanced structure for Masters Hockey in Ireland.

Training games will commence in January 2010 in preparation for the next Home Nations which Ireland are hosting at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club from 20 August 2010.  We have been invited to a number of other tournaments but have not entered any competitions until we are confident our player base would support such a commitment.

We are recruiting interested players from across Ireland. Success criteria include the ability to play hockey, good fitness, the commitment to travel once a month across Ireland and the intention to travel abroad to play international fixtures.  Ireland Masters is entirely self funding so the ability to 'pay your way' is also important.  We are also interested in recruiting umpires as all competitions demand that each team supply at least one umpire for matches, so guys with a whistle of any age can apply too.

Please suggest ways we could improve the site and if you want a game to see if you are the right man (or woman) for the job - please get in touch. Until then...'
